Beauty in All Shapes and Sizes

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Have you noticed there's a body love movement on the rise? In the age of social media when it’s become easy to throw shade anonymously there are those out there fighting body shaming and promoting confidence in our uniqueness.

In January 2016 Mattel introduced for the first time ever Barbie dolls in petite, curvy and tall sizes and in seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles. Ashley Graham, touted the first plus size supermodel, made her way into the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2 years in a row and Christie Brinkley just made headlines for her Sports Illustrated spot at the age of 63!  The fashion industry is catching on, too, as diversity is finally being celebrated on the runway and in editorial. The latest cover of Vogue magazine features seven well-known models of all different ethnicities (Liu Wen, Ashley Graham, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Imaan Hammam, Vittoria Ceretti & Adwoa Aboah).

Each of these cover girls proudly inhabits her own particular gorgeousness in her own particular way.

Together they represent a seismic social shift: The new beauty norm is no norm. And fashion, the industry

that—yes—has historically done much to enforce beauty codes, is joining the movement. ¡Viva la revolución!

                                                       All are welcome. Anything goes.

What does this look like in your life? It means the idea that you have to have a perfect body, be a certain color or stay young forever is unrealistic. After all that's not what really matters; what really matters is how we treat others, the good acts we practice and the love we share. It may seem superficial talking about beauty, confidence and self-esteem. It’s not. It’s about self-love and body acceptance, because we all deserve to feel valued, self-assured and beautiful.

I encourage you to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you confident?

  • Do you accept your flaws and showcase your strengths?

  • Do you celebrate your unique attributes?

  • Are you fulfilled creatively?

  • Do you step out of your comfort zone?

Chances are you answered no to one or more of these questions. That’s ok. You are not alone. We’ve all felt this way from time to time. But how do you start answering yes? You start by acknowledging you want to grow, to change – you want to love who you see in the mirror.

When you’re ready, call me. I’ll assess your closet, your body type, your style preference, your budget and, most importantly, we’ll dig deep to uncover what hasn’t been working and why.  By the time we are finished you will be empowered to build & maintain a wardrobe to fit your lifestyle, your body and your budget leaving you feeling 100% more confident.

I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this cultural shift for acceptance and individuality. Are you part of this movement? Tell me about it in the comment section below.
